18 September – 27 October 2023 

In the final round of community consultation, we went back to communities across Otago to discuss region-wide proposed new rules and regulations on a variety of topics, including: 

  • beds of lakes and rivers 
  • damming and diversion 
  • earthworks and drilling 
  • environmental flows and limits (water quantity) 
  • other discharges 
  • primary production 
  • stormwater management 
  • threatened species 
  • solid waste management 
  • wastewater management 
  • wetlands 

Some new rules and regulations for individual FMUs/rohe were also proposed. 

These included: 

  • environmental outcomes 
  • target attribute states
  • FMU/rohe provisions
  • environmental flows and levels and limits on take, diversion and damming of water
  • lakes
  • river catchments

Region-wide online discussion

A region-wide online discussion was held on Friday, 6 October. The ORC team and councillors presented to the public about the proposed direction of the Land and Water Regional Plan, giving people the opportunity to ask questions and give feedback on the draft Plan.

Upper Lakes (Queenstown) online discussion

An online discussion was held on Tuesday, 10 October. The ORC team and councillors presented to the public about the proposed direction of the Land and Water Regional Plan, especially for the Queenstown area. People were given the opportunity to ask questions and give feedback on the draft Plan.

Catlins

The Catlins community drop-ins were held at 11am and 3pm, Wednesday 4 October 2023 at the Owaka Memorial Community Centre. 

Dunedin & Coast

The Dunedin & Coast community drop-ins were held at 11am and 3pm, Tuesday 19 September 2023 at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery.

Dunstan

The Dunstan community drop-ins were held at 11am and 3pm, Tuesday 17 October 2023 at the Cromwell & Districts Presbyterian Church.

Lower Clutha

The Lower Clutha community drop-ins were held at 11am and 3pm, Thursday 5 October 2023 at the Cross Recreation Centre in Balclutha.

Manuherekia

The Manuherekia community drop-ins were held at 11am and 3pm, Friday 27 October 2023 at the Ophir Peace Memorial Hall.

North Otago

The North Otago community drop-ins were held at 11am and 3pm, Monday 18 September 2023 at the Weston Hall.

Roxburgh

The Roxburgh community drop-ins were held at 11am and 3pm, Wednesday 18 October 2023 at the Millers Flat Hall. 

Taieri

The Taieri community drop-ins were held at 11am, Monday 9 October 2023 at the Maniototo Golf Club in Ranfurly and at 4pm, Monday 9 October 2023 at the Coronation Hall in Mosgiel. 

Upper Lakes

The Upper Lakes community drop-ins were held at 11am and 3pm, Monday 16 October 2023 at the Lake Wānaka Centre.
