Keeping you up to date with detours and changes happening as a major Queenstown roading project is underway. Otago Regional Council is working with the New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi to keep Queenstown bus passengers moving while this infrastructure work happens. Please check back to keep up with changes to bus routes.
Buses stopping at the Frankton Bus Hub may be following detours due to road closures. Detours will depend on where the road works are happening. Find out which routes are affected on which dates below.
For information on detour routes and temporary bus stops stay up to date with our bus alerts here.
Please let your bus driver know if you are transferring to another bus at the Frankton Bus Hub so they can communicate with the other driver if buses are running behind schedule.
While most of this work will be done at night, travel times may also be affected during the day so please plan ahead. If you have to be somewhere at a specific time you may want to consider catching an earlier bus.
Buses will follow detours and service temporary bus stops due to road closures around the Stanley and Ballarat Street intersection.
Please note that all buses will be impacted by the road closure happening around the Frankton Bus Hub from Monday 28 April to Thursday 15 May between 9pm-6am (excluding Friday and Saturday nights).
This closure means that your bus trip may be a bit longer than usual after 9pm.
All buses will be able to access the Frankton Bus Hub via the BP roundabout, but delays are expected.
Routes 1, 3 and 4 will follow diversions around Queenstown Airport via Hawthorne Drive and the Lucas Place roundabout.
SH6 Kawarau Road will reopen again each morning after 6am. The BP roundabout will remain open throughout the closure.
Remember you can also track your bus using the free Transit app.
Six trenches, 1-2m wide and 2-3m deep, will be cut across the state highway using road saws, diggers, and rollers. These trenches will be filled in and the road repaired by 6am each morning, ready for traffic. Due to the size of the trenches, all bus and coach operators, and oversize loads, need to use the detour below. For more details about these works, go to: www.nzta.govt.nz/queenstown-package
