The purpose of the 10-year investment plans are to secure funding from the National Land Transport Fund to invest projects which are important to the communities of Otago. This includes investment in public transport in Dunedin and Queenstown, investment in the State Highway network by NZ Transport Agency – Waka Kotahi and the investment plans of the individual Councils of Otago region WDC, DCC, BDC, CODC and QLDC. The next National Land Transport Plan with be announced on the 1st September 2024.
Our review of Regional Land Transport Plans 2021-31 has been finalised, and the Mid-term review approved and adopted. The Otago and Southland Regional Transport Committees have finalised this combined RLTP.
The Regional Land Transport Plan outlines proposed transport network improvements for the next six years, and with a review to update it mid-term.

The 2015–2021 Otago Southland Regional Land Transport Plans outline the collaborative efforts of the Otago and Southland Regional Transport Committees to shape the future of transportation in the region. These plans focus on funding and providing essential transport services and infrastructure to achieve our shared vision for efficient and sustainable transport systems.
The South Island Regional Transport Committee Chairs Group was established in 2016 for the purpose of significantly improving transport outcomes in the South Island through collaboration and integration.
