The Otago Regional Council’s monthly council meeting will be in Balclutha on Wednesday with locals urged to come along.
ORC Chair Gretchen Robertson there will presentations by specialist ORC staff on the Catlins Catchment Action Plan, proposed changes around criteria for to the annual ECO Fund, an update on the transport work programmes and discussion around the recently paused, cornerstone, Land and Water Regional Plan.
“As usual there’s a diverse range of subjects being considered at this meeting, reflecting the wide-ranging environmental work ORC undertakes for communities,” Cr Robertson says.
One member of the public is scheduled to present at the public forum, talking about beach erosion.
The meeting will be held at:
Te Pou Ō Mata-Au Clutha District War Memorial & Community Centre,
6 Clyde Street,
Balclutha,
starting at 1pm, and will be live streamed at ORC YouTube.
The Agenda is already available online at orc.govt.nz.
“We really value it when people can attend and consider the environmental projects or issues we’re looking at, especially something so locally topical like the Catlins Catchment Action Plan,” Cr Robertson says.
The report sets out the key findings from a mid-term evaluation of the Catlins Catchment Action Plan
development project, covering October 2023 to October 2024. Specifically, it examines the effectiveness of key development processes, including the selection and recruitment of the Catlins
Integrated Catchment Group and the tools enabling collaboration, engagement, and information sharing.
Cr Robertson says the Catlins Action Plan is not solely focused on freshwater outcomes but the whole catchment, including biodiversity, land, water (fresh and salt), ecosystem services and human well-being values such as mahika kai, wāhi tupuna and livelihoods.
*The next day, Thursday 21 November, the ORC’s Regional Leadership Committee meets from 9am-11am, at the Council chamber Level 2, Philip Laing House, 144 Rattray St, Dunedin.
