Submissions extended — Initial proposal for representation arrangements for the 2025 local elections

The consultation period for ORC’s representation review, which looks at how Otago’s communities are represented, is being extended to 8 September after a process error was identified.

The consultation period for ORC’s representation review, which looks at how Otago’s communities are represented, is being extended to 8 September after a process error was identified.

People weren’t asked for contact details so we could offer the opportunity to speak at any future hearings and acknowledge that submissions were received. We’re required to ask for this information and we apologise for this error and any inconvenience it causes.

A lot of people have already shared their views, and the submissions made so far will still be considered by councillors; however, everyone who has submitted is encouraged to submit again. Submitters who have provided contact information will be contacted.

The extended consultation period is open to everyone, and people have until 11.59pm on Sunday, 8 September, to share their views.

On 26 June 2024 the Otago Regional Council reviewed its representation arrangements, and resolved that the following proposal apply for the Council for the elections to be held on
11 October 2025:

Council Representation

It is proposed that the Council comprise 12 members elected from four constituencies.

It is proposed one councillor position moves from the Dunedin to the Dunstan constituency. Find out more about the proposed changes and have your say on the ORC website.
