Thursday 13 June 2019
The temperatures have dropped and the days will continue to shorten until the shortest day on June 22.
Some of the most challenging days for the public bus service are snow days. While our biggest goal is to provide the best possible service for all users, safety is always top of our list. Throughout each snow day our bus operators regularly assess road and driving conditions and inform us of any delays and changes within the service, including any cancellations of services.
When icy conditions and snow delay services, our operators let us know as soon as possible, and we then update the various communication channels. We share this information with our bus users via bus alerts on our website, the OrbusDN Facebook page, and now also via My Little Local, the easy to use, free to download app that brings all of Dunedin’s events and news together in one place.
We now have a dedicated Orbus button on My Little Local, and when you sign up to notifications you will know about major delays and disruptions across the city that affect buses.
Total Mobility Scheme
For some people, public transport is simply not an option. As well as providing the Orbus bus service, ORC also runs the Total Mobility scheme which helps folks with mobility issues to get around Dunedin, if they meet eligible criteria.
Funded by the ORC and NZTA, we work with 15 supporting agencies across Otago to help people who have difficulty accessing public transport, by providing access to subsidised taxi transport. Those who meet the criteria receive a subsidy on eligible door-to-door transport with one of 16 approved transport operators, including taxi companies and private hire companies.
Independent agencies who are able to undertake the assessments are listed on our website. Alternatively, contact ORC customer service team to have the relevant information posted to you.
