Get coastal

Have you been to the beach lately? The Orbus network connects most of Dunedin. If you live North, East or West of the inner city, take your service to the Bus Hub and catch the No. 8 travelling from Normanby via the Bus Hub and on to St Clair. The No. 8 terminates on Bedford Street, a one-minute walk to the St Clair Esplanade via the park. Departing from the Bedford terminus every 15 minutes from 6am to 7pm means you can be flexible and relax while enjoying the cafes, white sandy beaches, surfers and beautiful coastal weather. There’s a great playground too for the kids.

Another option is St Kilda. Services 55 and 44 travel via the Hub southbound to St Kilda beach with the terminus on Victoria Road, about a five-minute walk from the St Kilda Surf Life Saving Club. For the little ones there’s the Marlow Park Playground (dinosaur park) and Dunedin Ice Stadium close by too.

Go wild

Wild Dunedin starts next week, with events around the city and beyond. Catch your usual service to the Hub on Great King Street and explore. Activities are spread throughout the city, including at the Octagon, the Otago Museum, the Woodhaugh Gardens and the railway station, plus much further afield if you’re adventurous.  

Fares and transfers

The ring zone includes St Clair and St Kilda, while all the city-based attractions as mentioned above are in the city zone. With a GoCard an adult fare for two zones is $2.53 while for children it’s $1.52 and free of charge for those under five. Plus you’ll get a free 30-minute within zone transfer with your GoCard.

Public holiday bus services

The Orbus Dunedin service will not operate on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. The public holiday service schedule will operate on Easter Monday and Anzac Day on 25 April. The Otago Heritage Bus Society’s Suburban Rumbler is operating services on Easter Friday and Sunday along the St. Clair - Normanby route (via the Octagon) that the No. 8 bus would usually take.
