ORC’s new journey planner integrates Google Transit

Tuesday 27 May 2014

Users of the Dunedin bus network now have access to enhanced timetable and route information.

ORC has introduced a new journey planner for the network that integrates Google Transit information, which can be accessed through the Bus area of the council’s website.

ORC director corporate services Wayne Scott said the planner prompts the user to enter a bus journey origin and destination. The journey planner uses Google Transit and Google Maps, which now includes Dunedin bus timetable data, to generate the next available routes.

“The journey planner allows you to enter where you are and where you want to go. It then works out your ideal journey, with the number of stops and estimated travel time,” Mr Scott said.

Many phones have Google Maps installed as the default mapping tool; alternatively, the Google Maps app can be downloaded from Apple or Android stores, the tool can also be directly accessed by any smartphone’s web browser.

Mr Scott said the introduction of the planner aimed to make ORC’s timetable more accessible and from anywhere at any time.
