Our engineering team carries out annual work programmes to manage water flow in waterways around Otago.
This work enhances the resilience of river ecosystems and lessens the risk of floods for the community. Seasonal maintenance plays a crucial role in sustaining environmental balances and flood resilience.
This work is divided into two areas: river management and operations.
River management focuses on Otago’s natural waterways, while operations manages the flood protection and drainage schemes in the lower reaches of the Taiari/Taieri, Clutha and Tokomairiro rivers.
The maps below show planned works in these two areas for the 2023 – 2024 season. These maps are updated quarterly.
