Stoney Creek in Wānaka has a steep alpine catchment that discharges into Lake Wānaka across an alluvial fan. When urban development of the alluvial fan increased in the early 2000s, infrastructure had to be built to mitigate the risk of the alluvial fan shifting and flooding. In Stage 1, a system of natural and engineering features was developed, including channel modifications and debris traps.

We plan to complete further work in the Long Term Plan 2024-2034, beginning with an investigation phase to refine the scope of work.
