Irrigation Efficiency Field Day

Join Maniototo Irrigation Company (MIC) and Otago Regional Council (ORC) at an irrigation efficiency field day on Wednesday, 6 March, 1.30-4pm at 433 Puketoi Runs Road, near Patearoa.

It’s your opportunity to find out how to get the most out of irrigation to:  

  • Improve yields 
  • Reduce environmental impacts 
  • Save money, and  
  • Assist with industry and regulatory compliance. 

 

Hear from industry expert Andrew Curtis (former Irrigation NZ CEO) and see a practical field assessment (aka ‘bucket test’).  

 

Schedule for the day: 

  • 1.30pm start: Welcome from MIC and ORC, introductions 
     
  • Host farmer – Luke Jeffries: current irrigation objectives and systems, pivot, and sub-surface 
     
  • Andrew Curtis (Primary Insight), covering: 
    • Benefits of being efficient — operational cost savings and production gains 
    • Knowing when to irrigate and how much to apply. 
    • Using soil moisture data to inform decision -making 
    • Variable rate irrigation 
    • Bucket test demonstration 
    • Q&A

  • Wrap-up (4pm finish) 
     
     

There will be some refreshments and a BBQ for those who wish to stay and have a chat.
