Description: A low turf ephemeral tarn on a broad ridge crest within the Rolling Hills land system. 1

Size: 0.7 ha.

Altitude: 580 - 600 m above sea level.

Approximate location: 9 km Northwest of the intersection of Ramrock Road and Townsend Road, Nenthorn.
NZTM (centre point): E1395480 N4956030.

Regional Plan: Water for Otago. Schedule 9 Regionally Significant Wetland, no.119, Map F59.

Territorial Authority: Waitaki District Council.

Habitat for nationally or internationally rare or threatened species or communities. Presence of threatened plant Tetrachondra hamiltonii on margin of tarn. 1

Scarce in Otago in terms of its ecological or physical character. Less than 15% of marshes remain in Otago. 2

High diversity of indigenous wetland flora and fauna. High plant diversity. The tarn contains the native herb Hypsela rivalis, Carex gaudichaudiana and club rush (Eleocharis acuta). 1
