Our Harbourmaster oversees maritime safety on Otago’s coast and in the region’s harbours. This covers commercial vessels such as cargo vessels, cruise ships, fishing vessels, ferries and tourism operators.

Otago Harbour’s abundant bird and sea life make it the eco-tourism capital of Aotearoa. The harbour is also home to Port Otago, the primary export port for the South Island region of New Zealand.

Day-to-day activities in the commercial port areas of Otago Harbour are managed by Port Otago Limited. The Waitaki District Council manages activities in Oamaru Harbour.
