GIS Analyst

At the Otago Regional Council (ORC), our mission is ‘for our future’. We’re here to protect and enhance the environment and enable our communities to do the same. To be sure we can deliver on our responsibilities, we are evolving as an organisation, and we’re not overstating when we say we have some really big targets to reach. We need the right people, in the right roles, to help us to get there.

The Opportunity

The IT team are excited to bring to the market an opportunity for an experienced and technical person to join them in the position of GIS Analyst.

Reporting to the Senior GIS Analyst, you will apply your expertise in geospatial science and technology to undertake modelling, planning, analyses and mapping services. You will be an expert problem solver and use innovation to develop new and efficient ways of supporting our GIS users across the organisation using Python and ArcGIS Model Builder. Your strong communication skills will be used in this role as the appointed go-to contact within ORC for troubleshooting, response to requests for mapping services, support and system training.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Sound knowledge of GIS products (particularly ArcGIS product suite), GIS scripting and automation tools;
  • Experience in delivering GIS and mapping services, and supporting customers to define system needs;
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, conceptual and communication skills;
  • Experience in documenting processes and providing guidance to end-users.

We think Otago’s a pretty special place. It covers a vast area – the third largest local government region in New Zealand. Those who call Otago home enjoy access to mountains, coastal lowlands, dramatic rivers and wild beaches. Our environment here is part of who we are, and at ORC, we work each day to look after it.

If you share this passion and can align your skills and experience to what we’ve outlined above, we would love to hear from you!
