  • Contains a wild population of brook char. 16

  • A lagoon with a sloping edge with good plant communities and populations of Birds. Nesting and living area for Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos), Grey Duck (Anas superciliosa), Shoveller and Black Swan (Cygnus atratus). Also used for moulting by Paradise Shelduck (Tadorna variegata) and Canada Goose (Branta canadensis). 16

  • Wetland vegetation includes raupo (Typha orientalis), cutty grass (Carex germinata), common rush (Juncus effuses) and crack willow (Salix fragilis). 17

  • Listed as an Area of Significant Indigenous Vegetation in the Queenstown Lakes District Plan. 18

  • Classified as a Wetland of Ecological and Representative Importance (WERI) and a Site of Special Wildlife Interest (SSWI). 18
